 FOOTNOTES & FANCY FREE 

This Blog has been created to take a fresh and casual approach to classical scholarship. For too long now academia has ruled how articles and essays are to be formulated, how passages are to be cited, how bibliographies are to be set up etc. As I approach my 80th birthday, I find myself at that stage of life where I don't want anyone telling me what to do and how to do it and impeding my creative efforts with what I deem to be silly rules. My focus is on Homer, the Greek author of the Iliad and the Odyssey as well as Vergil, the Roman author of the Aeneid.

All translations of the Iliad and the Odyssey used in Footnotes & Fancy Free are taken from my own translations of the two works completed over the course of 2024-25.
